Presurgical Applications of Functional MRI in Epilepsy
    (fMRI: Epilepsy)

Principle Investigator:

Jeffery Binder, M.D.

Grant:

NIH.

Project manager:

Michael Chen, Tel: 414 456-8149, Email: mchen@mcw.edu.

The Goals:

The objective of this project is to validate applications of FMRI in the surgical management of epilepsy. The first main hypothesis is that among the brain areas showing FMRI activity during a given task, there is a subset that is critically necessary for normal performance of the task. Lesions in these areas (whether by anesthetization or surgery) produce a graded deficit in the behavior that elicited the FMRI response.

Collaboration:

General Clinical Research Center, Department of Neurology, MCW.
